Join us in the activities for the summer of 2017

Welcome to BRCLL,
Blue Ridge Center for Lifelong Learning

Thank you for visiting our website.  If you are interested in strengthening your mind, expanding your knowledge, learning about your community, making new friends and staying active this organization will be of interest to you.  We are an organization within the Blue Ridge Community College that caters to the interests of older adults in the area of Henderson County, NC.

Our volunteers have arranged for a number of different activities to help you shed the winter doldrums this summer (May - August, 2017).  Which of the following classes interest you?

We also have planned the following day trips (EdVentures) to local areas; sign up early because they fill up quickly.

Come, join us to meet new folks, have fun and stimulate the grey matter.

Message From Our Chair:

My first two months as Chair of BRCLL have been extremely busy. This is a vibrant organization of volunteers who work tirelessly to bring you excellent classes and exciting travel opportunities. We are constantly trying to do more with one part-time Coordinator and a small group of volunteers. I strongly encourage all of you who may be thinking of joining our organization as a volunteer to take the next step and contact us to talk about what role you might take in whatever area interests you.

BRCLL is a financially self-sustaining organization; we receive no funding from any outside source. Our classes and trips make it possible to keep the lights on and to pay our indispensable Coordinator. We also manage to set aside $3,000 annually for Continuing Education scholarships at BRCC for deserving individuals to assist them in taking classes related to job training so they may be able to make a better life for themselves and their families. These scholarships are awarded based on need. We often get thank you letters from the students. Here are some quotes from a few of them: “My heart is full of so much love for people such as yourselves that want to help a young woman like me succeed.”; “I wanted to express to your staff a heartfelt appreciation for helping me continue my education. It is not only a blessing to me, but my children. It is my desire to finish a nursing degree, to be able to provide for my family, and set a path for my children to follow.”  You can feel proud you are participating in such a wonderful scholarship program simply by taking courses and going on our trips.

We appreciate our members very much and would also like to invite the non-members who join us from time to time to become members of this dynamic organization. As you look through this Newsletter, I hope you will see that, once again, we have far exceeded your expectations.

Have a wonderful summer!
Carol Rueter

Join Us For An Edventures Planning/Social Get Together

We feel we have a good EdVentures program, but realize everything can be improved. You are the people who matter and we want to give you an opportunity to discuss “all things EdVentures”, from the destinations to the snacks we provide. All past and potential travelers are welcome. Let’s put our collective heads together and see the result! We encourage you to bring all your good ideas to Patton 150 on Monday, May 22 from 2-4 p.m. and share some snacks with us.

This is your opportunity to help us make a difference.

Please RSVP by May 17 to or 694-1740.

Terri Wallace is the BRCLL coordinator. Her office hours depend on many things including class schedules. In general the office is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday through Thursday. Terri can be reached at 694-1740 or e-mail.  Phone messages are usually updated daily and calls are returned as soon as possible.

If the Blue Ridge Community College is closed for weather-related issues all Lifelong Learning programs scheduled for that day are cancelled. If BRCC is on a delayed schedule afternoon Lifelong Learning classes will meet. Closing information is broadcast on local radio and television stations or you can call the College at 694-1700.
