From Whence Came the Carolinas

3 sessions          Tuesdays             1:00 - 3:00pm             April 13-27, 2010

Location: 150 Patton Bldg., BRCC  Tuition: $20

Content: Would you believe the Carolinas were once in the Southern hemisphere, or that the equator used to cross them? Do you know how old the Blue Ridge Mountains are? What has happened here in the last 1.3 billion years? We will examine these questions as well as other interesting details about our region and the planet in general. Weather permitting, the third session will be a field trip.

Presenter: Jerry Eyer is a geologist who spent thirty years in industrial exploration and production. After 1990, he worked primarily in the MidEast and the former Soviet Union. During that time, he taught resource management at the University of South Carolina.
